What's new at École Mount Prevost's Library Learning Commons.

Tuesday, January 12th, 2021

Use our Library Learning Commons Catalogue from home!

Click the Ecole Mount Prevost Destiny Discover Catalogue link to start.

Students from Grades 4 – 7 will need their student number plus password to login in.  It is the same student number to use Office 365.  Students know their passwords to log into the library catalogue and access their accounts.

Anyone can search the catalogue; student login is required to check individual accounts and place holds from Grades 4-7.  Librarians have asked the school board office for Grades K-3 account privileges and will update families when we have more information.   If you are having any issues or need the password, please email Mme Zibin at dzibin@sd79.bc.ca

The Mo Willems Reading Project with Mme Zwick’s Grade 6/7s

Monday, January 20th, 2020

Books by author/illustrator Mo Willems are some of the most popular books in our library. Today Mme Zwick’s Grade 6/7 class will begin our Mo Willems Reading Project!

Through the Library Learning Commons, students will learn how to develop their Fluency and Expression through a series of lessons with co-developed criteria. In pairs, students will choose a Mo Willems book from our school collection to practice and study.

When ready, groups will record their reading of their chosen Mo Willems book and create a QR code to attach to the book cover. All students who sign out a Mo Willems book in the future can scan the code and have the book read to them by a student in Mme Zwick’s class.

For more information on author Mo Willems please follow the link: http://www.mowillems.com

Franken Toys: An After-school Workshop for Grades 5-7 students

Wednesday, January 8th, 2020

Our first after-school workshop of 2020 is “Frankentoys: A Take-Apart Workshop” starting Monday, January 13th and running through to Monday, February 3rd (4 sessions).   In the workshop, students will analyze stuffed toys for the way the toys are constructed and carefully take the toys apart to preserve as many toy parts as possible for reuse.  Furry exteriors, plastic eyes and internal moving mechanisms are valuable resources for mixing into unique creations  — making brand new Frankentoys!

The Frankentoy Workshop is intended for students in Grades 5-7; 20 students maximum.

Time: After-school from 2:20 – 3:30, in the Library Learning Commons.

Duration: Monday, January 13th, 2020 to Monday, February 3rd, 2020.

CLASS IS FULL.
